* WHEN MEDIA STRIKES *
A Senseless Assault On An Innocent Fight For Human Life.
At one point, I had decided that I would not bother to place this story on our website, since we had been compensated so "royally" for it; But since it was recently discovered that the Washington City Paper had actually placed it on the internet despite their oral promise that they would not as a part of an Agreement between us, I decided that the public should hear our side of the story, be able to view our evidence which is and always has been available to the public, and understand exactly what they are supporting when they pick up a copy of the Washington City Paper from the stands on the streets, on the grounds in front of the places that never ordered it, or from any vendor allowing it to be placed within their establishments.
Here is the link to the story on the internet, where you can also leave comments. We ask that you please leave your comments there or with us, by all means.

That moment is the turning point of I...And When, but after it, Brooks’ life doesn’t get easier. She’s taken in by a kleptomaniac school librarian with two delinquent sons, and the school bullies continue to torment her. Finally, she escapes to Pennsylvania to enroll in Job Corps.
Brooks, who believes she is 46 (one of the things her parents disappeared with is her birth certificate), began writing her memoir in 2004 at the urging of a roommate. Since the memoir’s first printing the same year, Brooks has dedicated her life to promoting her book and raising awareness of child abuse and abandonment. She typically wakes up at 3 a.m., goes for a swim at 6, then returns to her 16th Street Heights apartment to spend the rest of the day at her computer harvesting e-mail addresses. She says she has phoned, faxed, or e-mailed approximately 100,000 people from across the country asking them to visit her site, voice their support for her cause by signing the guestbook, and buy a book.
These strangers aren’t always receptive to Brooks’ random solicitations. One of her e-mails was mocked by Maui Time Weekly’s “Ask an Annoying Press Release” column. Brooks tends to respond to such slights by adding to the three lists of enemies that she keeps on her Web site: corporations that have declined to support her cause, an e-mail directory of people who “had absolutely NOTHING to contribute to our fight for the Lives and Rights of Abused and Abandoned Children,” and “African-American women representing Churches, Banks, Hospitals, Schools, and other Establishments who have...chosen to COMPLETELY ignore our efforts.”
“You just can’t write companies and ask them to do something for you like that and get upset when they can’t,” says Kaelyn Jones, who corresponded with Brooks on behalf of Delta Airlines (and eventually got corporate security involved). “That’s unfair.”
Many of the people on Brooks’ shit lists don’t remember receiving anything from her at all. Baltimore pastor Laurene Mackel was shocked to hear that Brooks had branded her an enemy of child welfare. “This is really strange,” she says.
Brooks says she donates 100 percent of proceeds from book sales, which she says are up to about 5,000 copies, to Children’s Hospital and Hurricane Katrina victims, but it’s unclear how Brooks thinks someone signing her guestbook will benefit abused children. “I just want to be used, to be a tool,” she explains. “The ideal outcome for me is for someone to realize how hard I’m working and the fact that I’m willing to step up here and open up my wounds. I want to educate, but I don’t know where to start.”
Recently, however, Brooks made a small step toward reconciliation: She removed a couple of the lists from her Web site. “I thought about it hard,” she says. “It shouldn’t matter what a lot of people’s opinions think. I was kind of using them as a crutch. I can’t make people care. I can just hope people care. Why am I taking up all this space on my Web site when I could be using it for more positive things?”
“I think I’m at a point where I can stand up,” she says, biting her lip and wiping away tears. “That’s it. I can stand up and swing back.”—Huan Hsu
The Washington City Paper was in fact sued for this article, after their Staff Writer - Huan Hsu, contacted me at my home via email on August 21 of 2006, faking interest in my work and claiming that a co-worker of his had brought his attention to my book and given him a copy, and stating that not only did the Washington City Paper want to do a Front Page story on us, but that they were coming to take professional photos and more, which they were planning to place on the FRONT PAGE of the Washington City Paper, in the "Artifacts" Section. Hsu had sent us the link and all, where our story would be. Here is his email, that came to me at a previous address:
Needless to say, Hsu showed up to my home alone, wearing run over flip-flops, dirty clothing, and riding a "sidewalk" bike, and spent nearly three and a half (3 1/2) hours on my Living Room sofa, taking bits and pieces from the answers he received from us as we answered his questions about our cause. He then returned to his desk at the Washington City paper to select random names from our Guestbook full of Supporters on our website to harass, in an attempt to back up his article. (He even inquired about some things that he saw in my home, that would have nothing to do with his story, and even made the suggestion that I go over to the "Supermarket" located not far away, to hand out Flyers about my work - something I refused to do, since our fight is an "Online" fight.)
That "piece of work" actually went across the miles via the internet to Wailuku, Hawaii to bother a fellow Supporter - Mr. Anthony Pignataro, Owner of his own independent Newspaper, who ran an article of support for our work in the "Maui Times Newspaper", in order to try and get him to state something negative about our work - but the Editor refused, and instead, sent us a letter for the Judge in this case, stating that Huan Hsu had contacted him with a "motive" that was much more than "Morbid".
When this wasn't enough for Hsu, he switched to picking on one Pastor Laurene Mackel c/o John Hopkins Bayside Medical Center's Patient Relations, who had supported our fight "LONG" before Hsu's stupidity took place. (Immediately, our Guestbook was adjusted so that our Supporters were able to send us their messages of support "without" their contact information being displayed, as with the regular format.)
Every statement in the article Huan Hsu wrote had been either Fabricated or Misconstrued so much that when the date came for the story to show in the Washington City Paper, Hsu and the Editors of the Washington City Paper decided to hide it in the "Archives" section of the Washington City Paper as opposed to the "Front Cover" - only for the Secretary at that establishment to tell us exactly "where" to find it. I personally contacted Hsu immediately after printing out the article, and asked him why he would do something to disturbing.
His response was, "Thank you for hanging out with me!"
The Washington City Paper was hit within that hour with a Three Million Dollar ($3,000,000.00) Lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court in Washington, D.C. on our behalf for Libel, Slander and Defamation of Character - a case which they settled within Two (2) days after receiving their Subpoena's from the Court, in the form of a Bank Cashier's Check delivered to my front door at the Rittenhouse Apartments located 6101 16th Street, Northwest - despite their Attorneys' initial statement to me that the Washington City Paper was "known" for "Litigating" their cases until the Plaintiffs finally dismissed it, and even after their filing to move our Court date up to the following year BEFORE realizing the "damage" that would be done during such "waiting period".
Their employee - Amy Austin, brought the check to my front door, declaring the entire time to me that she was not a "Racist" like Huan Hsu's article presented them all to be. When they were "first" confronted about the article, their then Editor - Erik Wemple (who either was or is now employed by the Washington Post), stated that I should simply write a letter to the Washington City Paper to "complain" about what Hsu wrote, and that he (Erik) would surely publish it - figuring in "his" warped little mind that this would make all the "bull" printed by Huan Hsu and the Washington City Paper "dissapear". (Of course, it would take a "White" man with an "Asian" following his lead to allow an attack of an African American woman through his city-wide "Rag Mag", who is fighting for the lives of our African-American Children.)
