Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long has One Voice / One Sound been around?
For over Forty Years (40) in the mind of its Creator - C.J. Brooks, and for over Six (6) years Online.
2. Are there Internships with One Voice / One Sound?
There are no Internships here.
3. How do I volunteer time for One Voice / One Sound?
You can volunteer as much of your time as you have to spare, right from where you are, by forwarding the link to our site to everyone that you know, and suggesting that they leave a Message with their Full Name on the Guestbook.
4. How did you get my contact information?
Every so often, someone will send us the physical or email address of someone whom they think will care enough about the work that is being done here to leave a Message on the Guestbook.
However, sometimes when we are up at 3:00 in the morning inputting information that we get into our outgoing communication for the day, a letter gets switched here and there in those emails or letters, and the information lands in the hand of someone that we did not intend for it to - but are often happy that it did, when we hear from the individual(s) receiving it in the form of a Message on the Guestbook in a "Positive Manner". (Fortunately, this happens a lot!)
On the other hand, when our information reaches an individual who is not happy to received information about our website or our work for the lives of our African-American children, we simply ask that they simply discard the information or better yet, pass it on to someone whom they believe might be interested in knowing that we are here. (Fortunately for us, this rarely happens!)
5. Do You Use Mailing Lists?
Never. We have no devices nor desires to retain the contact information that we receive - because once an individual receives the link to our site and leaves a Message on the Guestbook or not, they are now well aware that we are here and what we are all about. There is no need to repeatedly contact them, since we do not send out Website Updates, Solicit Donations, Schedule Appointments or Activities. Our Visitors are always free to return to our site on their own. We have such an impact on our Visitors and Supporters the first time they connect with us (be it a Positive impact or a Negative one), that they do not need a reminder of us ... and that says a lot.
6. Since One Voice / One Sound does not solicit Funds, how would I make a Contribution ?
Contributions are made to us in several ways: By having Announcements placed in your local Newspaper, Church Programs or School Bulletins which will direct the community to our Website, by making announcements about us during your meetings, speaking engagements, book clubs, etc., by having promotional items created for us to distribute by utilizing various vendors, or by simply handing your cash donation to us in person. We DO NOT solicit funds, but we will accept it in order to pass it on to a Child in need.
7. My Guestbook Posting does not show up when I hit the "send" button. Why is this?
Our Guestbook receipts are scanned by our Security System before posting. Your hitting the "Send" button after you are done writing your message forwards your Posting there first. If it meets the criteria explained under the blinking "Warning" bar above the Message Box, your posting will appear shortly thereafter, on the highest numbered "Here's What You Said" page of our Website if your name is on it, or on the lower numbered pages, if the message has been marked "Anonymous", because you failed to identify yourself. This action prevents unawanted material from being posted to our website and being viewable by the Public.
8. I have a loved one - A Child, that perished due to this epidemic that I would like to be remembered through One Voice / One Sound. How do I get this done?
So that we will not add a Child to any of our lists that should not be, we must be able to verify the date and birth of that Child using the Media or our other sources. The photo of that child and the circumstances surrounding the death can be sent to us using the information that we provide to you. The photo must be clear, and only containing that child. Please contact us using the phone number on the Home Page of our Website. We would like at this time, to extend our condolences to you.
9. I notice that you do not have a section reserved for Missing Children. Why?
There are thousand of websites online dealing with the issue of Children who are Missing. When we created our website, we noticed that there were very few wanting to deal with the subject of the Children who are still on "this" side of the dirt, being Abused and are possibly alive. We chose to create our site to deal with the issue that we know of First Hand: Child Abuse.
10. Your Website seems to be addressing the abuse of African-American Children only. Why?
African-American Women: Hence forth, a website referencing our African-American Children. Makes sense to us now, and made sence when we created it over seven years ago. We are extremely sure that the other races are as "covered" on the World Wide Web as well as the other forms of abuse that are still "barely" mentioning the deaths of "our" young African-American Kings and Queens. There is no point in adding to those.
11. How long are you planning to fight against Child Abuse?
In the words of the Legendary Stevie Wonder: "Until the day that Mother Nature's work is through."
