A HEART - FELT COMMENTARY

On January 9, 2010 at 11:30 P.M. On Fox Channel 5 (WTTG), Comedienne Wanda Sykes felt that it was necessary to poke fun at this movie, which tells the horror story of an abused African-American Teenager, during her show.
This was her Episode #108.
She thought that it was funny to mix this movie with a current children's movie, "Alvin and The Chipmunks" and air it at the very beginning of her show, where with a little computer graphics, it looked as if the Chipmunks were playing very heart-wrenching /emotional roles in the movie where "Precious" (played by Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe) was physically attacked, struck by objects and beaten by her mother Mo'nique (who received the Golden Globe Award for Supporting Actress in this movie as a loathsome, abusive welfare mother) . This movie was also nominated for Six (6) Academy Awards.
That little "dig" - which we regarded as not only a "slam" to the Producers, Actors and Actresses who put their hearts more hard work into creating this movie than Wanda Sykes ever could just "trying" to be funny, but also a dispicable, uncecessary and unforgiveable jab at the many Children who have lost their lives to this very Epidemic portrayed on the Screen - not to mention the Survivors and the Advocates for these children.
Here at One Voice / One Sound, we wish to applaud these two Beautiful African-American Sisters for helping to make a statement with their parts in this movie, and congratulate them as well, on receiving such an Honors. As for Wanda Sykes who recently married her girlfriend and became a "Partner" with two brand new babies in tow, one has to be concerned about those children, and basically and any other child in her care. After catching that episode, we no longer view her shows, much less the show of anyone who view an Abused Child as "fodder" for their act.
